During her Washington travels, Karla Zimmerman devoured an embarrassing number of half-smokes, swirled a Scotch in the Round Robin, admired bongs at the DEA Museum and gaped unabashedly at the Declaration of Independence in the National Archives. The city wdl always be her first love, the one that unleashed her wanderlust. Walking up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at night as a five year old, and seeing big ol' white-gleaming Abe, is her first magical travel memory. Karla has since trekked to more than 55 countries, and authored several Lonely Planet guidebooks covering the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. She lives in Chicago and writes travel features for newspapers, books, magazines and websites. Karla alse wrote the book's Plan Your Trip and Survival Guide sections. An avid news junkie and admirer of all things strange and political, Regis St Louis was destined for a long and tumultuous relationship with Washington, DC. No matter the season, he never tires of exploring the city of grand design and big ideas (if sometimes small-minded bureaucrats).
