Présentation de l'éditeur :
'I had never seen a man in my charge hit before and it made me wild. I then returned to see what I could do for him, but I could see at a glance that he was beyond all human aid his brains were in his hat, the bullet had gone through his head and there he lay, poor fellow, just sobbing his life away. Some of the others suggested bringing him in, but I wouldn t have him disturbed, and I lay under a waterproof sheet with him while he died. He never spoke, he was unconscious from the moment he was hit.' Throughout his military training and his service overseas, Kenneth Dalgliesh diligently wrote letters to his parents, and it is these, along with a large collection of Kenneth's detailed illustrations and sketches, that inform this remarkable book, detailing WWI, the loss of his arm (hence the title, Single-Handed), and his subsequent meeting with his wife-to-be in Cairo.
