Catalog published on the occasion of the exhibit ?L'Image des Mots? at the Centre Georges Pompidou from September 10 to November 4, 1985. Includes an introduction by the Minister of Culture, Jack Lang. From the Collection of Steve Reoutt (1938-2008). A longtime California College of the Arts Graphic Design faculty member (41 years to be exact) and professor emeritus, Reoutt also was a book illustrator, curator, painter, and genuinely appreciated and loved member of the CCA community. He was born in 1938 in Shanghai to Russian parents. He came to the United States when he was just 12 years old. He went on to cofound the San Francisco chapter of the AIGA, including serving a nine-year board position as design historian. In 2001 Reoutt received the AIGA Fellowship award for ?personal and professional contributions to raising the standards of excellence within our design community." He passed away May 14, 2008.

This book looks at French haute couture during the second quarter of the 20th century. Lavishly illustrated with tipped-in color plates and black & white illustrations including photogravures of artistic and fashion personalities of the era. Many photographs of Paris fashions of the period. Original designs by Christian Berard for Schiaparelli, and the theater. Section on surrealism and fashion. Full page color plates by Dufy, Benito, Berard, Dior and Gruau. The last section is reserved for full-page color and black & white ads, including works by Cassandre, Vertes, Berard, etc. 14" high X 10.5" wide 111 pages + 50 pages of advertisements. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
