Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Here you have a NEAR FINE FIRST EDITION of Liv Ullman's 1985 book, 'Choices'. A dead-earnest, introspective journal that details her perpetual struggles to "find the truth of my innermost feelings," Liv's book chronicles her life post-Changing. Increasingly disenchanted with acting, she takes on the role of a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Scenes of her wrenching encounters with refugees in Ethiopia and Somalia are juxtaposed with accounts of her domestic affairs: In New York (where she keeps an apartment on the Upper West Side), there is a fling with a pompous pedant whom she identifies as a "highly regarded scientist." Although she is a willing foil for his impromptu lectures on the brain (she refers to him as "the brain man"), Ullmann writes, "I always feel weighed down when he says ponderous things. Though I write it all down when I'm by myself." check out the photos of this treasure.

From the collection of Betty Anderson, legendary art director of publisher Knopf in the late 20th century as evidenced by her (small and unobtrusive) inventory number; Choices by Liv Ullmann is a novel that tells the story of two sisters who are forced to make difficult decisions that will affect their lives forever. The sisters are faced with a choice between a prestigious academic career and a more fulfilling life, or staying with their dysfunctional family. First edition of Liv Ullmann's quietly and beautifully written autobiography. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in the year of publication, "Dear Erica Here is mine. Happy New Year with love to you and your. Hug - Liv. December - 84." The recipient, Erica Jong remains best known for her 1973 novel Fear of Flying which became famously controversial for its portrayal of female sexuality and figured prominently in the development of second-wave feminism. Written in the first person and narrated by its protagonist, 29-year-old American poet Isadora Wing, Fear of Flying was written in the throes of the Sexual Revolution of the 1970s and encapsulated the movementâs redefinition of female sexuality. In interviews, Jong stated: âAt the time I wrote Fear of Flying, there was not a book that said women are romantic, women are intellectual, women are sexualâ"and brought all those things together⦠What [Isadora is] looking for is how to be a whole human being, a body and a mind, and that is what women were newly aware they needed in 1973.â The novel remains a feminist classic and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Author photograph by Eva Sereny. Choices takes us back into Liv Ullmann's extraordinary life as she shares her most personal thoughts and feelings about her loves, about her daughter, about her work as an actress and her impassioned work with UNICEF, and - most important and telling - about entering her middle years finding herself, perhaps for the first time in her life, ready and anxious to make the choices that reflect her own needs and desires rather than those of the people around her.
